چکیده

Whilst the ability to characterise the on-average monthly or yearly performance of systems without countermeasures is well determined, such methods are not efficient at Ka-band and above. Optimal fade mitigation technique design requires statistically and dynamically correct attenuation time-series. Optimal allocation of communication resources requires consideration of the channel statistics and dynamics in both space and time. This paper presents the fundamentals of MF-TDMA networks and ongoing work in the modelling and prediction of propagation channel characteristics.

Adaptation of Weibull Distribution on Channel Modeling for Satellite Communication Links above 10GHZ

Satellite Communication Networks in modern days has higher frequencies above 10GHZ.Frequencies more than 10GHZ causes rain attenuation. In this paper, a channel model is defined to synthesize rain attenuation of 10GHZ and above. Previously, for satellite communication networks, Maseng-Bakken(M-B)model is used which is a time series synthesizer proposed based on Stochastic Differential equations...

Unbalanced Large Scale Multiple Site Diversity Performance in Satellite Communication Networks

Frequency bands well above 10GHz are of primary importance for current and, more importantly, future user oriented satellite communication networks. In this course, well known rain fade mitigation techniques such as site diversity are reviewed and considered for use in a different context. This paper extends previous analytical methodologies to the case of large scale site diversity, that is, s...

Estimation of the Instantaneous Total Amount of Rain Attenuation over Japan for Adaptive Satellite Power Control

The 21-GHz satellite broadcasting enables to transmit high-capacity information such as ultrahigh-definition TV, 3D-TV and so on. However, the 21.4 to 22.0-GHz band suffers from considerable rain attenuation. In order to compensate it, the studies about a rain fade mitigation techniques have been done. One of the techniques proposed by NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories is an adapt...

Short-term prediction of rain attenuation using financial time series models

The constant demand for increased capacity of communication channels has led the SATCOM industry to develop new satellite systems operating at frequencies above 20 GHz where large bandwidths are available (EHF band – Extremely High Frequencies). Nevertheless, attenuation effects of atmospheric gases, clouds and rain can reach significant levels at these frequencies and it is no longer cost-effe...

A Prototype Adaptive Fade Countermeasure System for TDMA Operation at Ka Band

Ka band, the 20/30 GHz frequency band for satellite communications, has gained much interest in recent times. It is well suited for applications with small sized earth stations. The major disadvantage of Ka band, however, is its sensitivity to rain fading. Several satellite experiments are being carried out at the moment studying so called adaptive fade countermeasures, the purpose of which is ...
